WKS: The CNC Workshop - AUTO1 3D Printer Build

This is a turnkey, 3-day workshop package that includes expert instruction and guidance as you construct your own 3D printer from a kit and learn to operate it.

Dates:
June 6, 7 and 8
9AM to 5PM each day

Details:
You will be building the AUTO1 3D printer. This is a delta-type printer based on the popular RepRap Kossel design. It combines all the advantages of the open source hardware and software world with the low cost and convenience of a well-prepared kit package with many incremental improvements. It is a fast, reliable, and precise printer.

The design uses three steppers to rapidly and precisely position a very lightweight nozzle over the mirrored print bed. A quick-release filament extruder makes changing filament a fast and simple operation, and its temperature controlled fan for the nozzle prevents overheating.

Kit comes with a complete assembly and calibration manual, with more support available on-line. The printer can be controlled with a laptop via a USB 2.0 connection or in a stand-alone mode using an SD card for file storage.

AUTO1 features over the RepRap Kossel:
    Larger build volume
    Stronger frame
    Filament out sensing
    Easier filament change
    Integral filament holder
    Wiring harness provided
    Integral fan
    Illuminated nozzle
    Simplified leveling procedure
    Auto calibration
Registration: $75. Enrollment includes admission to the CNC Workshop for an even better value!

IMPORTANT: After registering, you will need to purchase the AUTO1 3D printer workshop kit directly from the manufacturer. The price is $845.00, which includes a $50 discount for workshop attendees. Your kit will be waiting for you at the workshop when you arrive so you won't pay shipping. TechShop will send registrants instructions for ordering their kit prior to the show. Registration in this build course INCLUDES admission to the main CNC workshop!

Note:

Your 3D printer kit will be waiting for you at the workshop. All you need to bring is a laptop with a USB 2.0 port or higher.

WKS: The CNC Workshop - CNC Mini Lathe Build

Joe Katona and Ron Ginger return from last year's CNC Workshop Mini Mill build class to guide students through the conversion of a high quality, bench top lathe to CNC control. The machine will feature CNC threading capabilities, a unique feature for such a low cost, bench top CNC lathe. A lathe conversion is a first for the CNC workshop and will be quite popular. Enrollment is limited to 12 spots so don't miss out!

Note: Build classes start Monday June 6th and registration includes admission to the main CNC Workshop beginning Wednesday June 8th.

In this build class students build a working, bench top CNC machine. A selection of a machine along with appropriate controls, motors, mechanical components and software is purchased by each student and an experienced instructor will guide the class through the entire conversion process. The student can be confident all the components will work together to build a successful machine. By the end of the course you will have a fully functional CNC machine to take home!

Build classes require pre-payment of the system cost. Shipping charges are included in the price. Students are responsible for getting the completed system from the workshop to their home.

All necessary tools will be provided for your use but you are free to bring your favorite hand tools if you prefer. Tools needed include screwdrivers, pliers, allen keys, small wrenches, nut drivers, etc.

You will need to provide a computer for checking out the system and the class will include training on the use of the machine. A laptop is probably the easiest PC to bring, but a desktop can be accommodated if needed. Exact PC requirements will be provided before the session.

Features Include:

• Based on the Little Machine Shop 7 X 16 Mini Lathe

• 2-axis lathe operation with threading

• Ball screws (preloaded) on all axes

• Travel is the same as the base, manual lathe

• Mach 4 machine control software

• Pokey controller with laptop operation

• Spindle on/off and speed control

• Limit switch and Home switch

• Basic tooling package included

NOTE:

This is advanced registration to reserve your seat in this build class. You will still need to purchase your machine, conversion parts and supplies. TechShop will provide you with instructions for purchasing those items prior to the class. Final cost has not yet been determined but is anticipated to be between $2500.00 and $3500.00. Registration in this build course INCLUDES admission to the main CNC workshop!
