WKS: CNC Workshop - AUTO1 3D Printer Build

Here's something new for the 2015 CNC Workshop: A 3D Printer build course. This is a turnkey, 2-day workshop package that includes expert instruction and guidance as you construct your own 3D printer from a kit and learn to operate it.

Dates:
June 16 and 17
9AM to 5PM each day

Details:
You will be building the AUTO1 3D printer. This is a delta-type printer based on the popular RepRap Kossel design. It combines all the advantages of the open source hardware and software world with the low cost and convenience of a well-prepared kit package with many incremental improvements. It is a fast, reliable, and precise printer.

The design uses three steppers to rapidly and precisely position a very lightweight nozzle over the mirrored print bed. A quick-release filament extruder makes changing filament a fast and simple operation, and its temperature controlled fan for the nozzle prevents overheating.

Kit comes with a complete assembly and calibration manual, with more support available on-line. The printer can be controlled with a laptop via a USB 2.0 connection or in a stand-alone mode using an SD card for file storage.

AUTO1 features over the RepRap Kossel:
    Larger build volume
    Stronger frame
    Filament out sensing
    Easier filament change
    Integral filament holder
    Wiring harness provided
    Integral fan
    Illuminated nozzle
    Simplified leveling procedure
    Auto calibration
Registration: $75. Enrollment includes admission to the CNC Workshop for an even better value!

IMPORTANT: After registering, you will need to purchase the AUTO1 3D printer workshop kit directly from the manufacturer for the special workshop-discounted price of $795 ($100 less than regular price). Kit will be waiting for you on-site at the workshop. All you need to bring is a laptop with a USB 2.0 port or higher.

Purchase your 3D printer kit by contacting www.autotroph.com/workshop.html or call (636)336-6150 and tell them you've signed up for the build class at the 2015 CNC Workshop.

WKS: CNC WorkShop - CNC Mini Mill Build

Here's your opportunity to build your very own fully functional CNC milling machine!

The machine build workshop is one of the best experiences available each year at the CNC Workshop. This is a 3-day intensive turnkey workshop in which you will receive expert guidance and instruction to convert a bench top milling machine into a fully functional CNC mill. You will not only build the machine but will be taught how to operate it, guaranteeing that you will complete the course with everything you need to begin making parts on your own!

Participants in this Build Workshop will also be eligible for discounted admission to the CNC Workshop which begins on the last day of the build workshop.

Build Course Dates:
June 15, 16 and 17
9AM to 5PM each day

Details:
This year the CNC Mill Build is again based on the high-torque Mini Mill with solid column from Little Machine Shop but with significant upgrades to the mechanical and electronics components. This has proven to be a very capable machine and makes an excellent CNC mill.

The build will provide you with an even better machine than in the past, with the addition of pre-loaded ball screws, PMDX control, Mach 4 machine control software, and slightly more powerful stepper motors.

The electronics package will include the PMDX-340 with the PMDX-411. The motion controller will provide very smooth and fast control with the new Mach4 software. The control package will even allow for USB hookup to the machine, so you will be able to use your own laptop to run it!

Steve Stallings, president of PMDX, will be on hand at the workshop to help set up the control.

The mechanical package will include pre-loaded (for decreased backlash) ball screws for all 3 axes from CNCfusion.com.

Our CNC control software will be the new Mach4 package from Newfangled Solutions. This new software is based on the years of experience with Mach3 and offers the refinement you would expect. Brian Barker, President of Newfangled and the principal author of Mach4, will be on hand to help install and show you how to use your new software.

We have fully tested this package so you can be assured your machine will be ready to run, and you will have learned to use it, at the conclusion of the build.

Extra Bonuses:
Little Machine Shop is again offering to add any mill tooling or supplies you might want with free shipping to the workshop. If you do not already have such items as a mill vise, collets, end mills, etc., call Little Machine Shop and arrange to purchase supplies. Be sure to tell them you are taking the CNC mill build course and they will send the items to the workshop with free shipping. You will be able to use the vise and tools to actually make a part at the workshop. We will supply G-code and instructions to help you make the first part on your machine at the conclusion of the workshop.

Cost: $2,620. This is a savings based on the multiple-part discounts we are being given by our component suppliers. Your admission to the CNC Workshop is also included in the cost of the CNC Mini MIll Build, giving you an even better value!

WKS: CNC Workshop - Mach 4 Screen Design and ModBus

With the new Mach4 a completely new language and structure is needed to generate wizards, macros and screen sets. Wizard programming is now done with Lua, and many new system calls are needed to effectively write wizards.

Scott Shafer has been working with Mach3 for many years, and was one of the first to begin using Mach4 and the new Lua environment. He has provided several tools to the Mach community on the Machsupport.com forum.

This special class is one of two single-day training sessions Scott will be offering on Monday before the start of the main CNC WorkShop. You may take one or both as needed. The second special class covers Wizards and McLua for Mach4 and can be found here.

Mach4 screen design and ModBus will include:
    Overview of the screen designer
Editing the PLC and other screen scripts
Adding components and how to tie them into Mach4
    How to set up ModBus
A walkthrough example of making a screen to read/write to a PLC over ModBus
