STEAM375: Youth 123D Design and 3D Printing SBU

THIS COURSE IS FOR YOUTH AGES 8-17 ONLY!

Thanks to 3D printing, you can quickly and easily create a physical object from a computer model, literally printing the part as it goes. This is an easy way to prototype your parts before machining or injection molding.

In this class, you will learn how to import, prepare, and print your three-dimensional parts using the MakerBot Replicator 3D printer.

Students will also be introduced into 3D Modeling though 123D Design and have time to design items such as a robot and a house. Learn the basics of 3D Modeling in a program you can download and use at home.

By the end of the class, you will have all the information and knowledge necessary to use this machine for all your 3D printing needs. Students will also have the core of basic 3D modelling down and have the ability to take their designed files home on a Flash Drive.

After students have taken this workshop, they will have passed the 3D Printing SBU

Prerequisite(s): None!

Equipment access: 3D Printer and Computers

Minimum age: 8 years

Supervision requirements: When using machines outside of class, 8- to 12-year-olds may only use equipment during "Supervised Maker Sessions" (classes and courses taught and supervised by TechShop Youth Education instructors).
