 PROJECT (PJT)

PJT564: Build a Bookcase

Learning how to build a simple bookcase is a terrific exercise in basic woodworking!

In this 2-part workshop, students will make their own stand-alone bookcase and learn advanced joinery techniques from instructor Raymond Fiddler.

After this workshop, you will have a full-sized bookcase to take home, which you may paint, stain, or leave to weather naturally. Your instructor will give you ideas on customizing the bookcase by making use of other areas of the shop, such as embellishments from other shop tools!

Participants are encouraged to come to this class with ideas of the design, as well as any measurements they may need to custom make this furniture for their house.

Prerequisite Courses: Woodshop SBU and the Joiner, Planer, and Table Router SBU

Notes:
  • Students must bring in ideas and measurements for the project that will fit in their lives. You are encouraged to bring drawings, pictures, etc.

  • Due to time constraints, all projects will be put together using the Kregs K4I Pocket Hole Jig. Dovetails and mortise and tenon joints are taught in the Advanced Joinery class at TechShop Mid-Peninsula.

  • Participants who bring in their own materials for creating their bookshelf will be credited the material fee back into their account.
Participants will automatically be registered for the two classes in the series they register for.
