WKS525: Read-a-Sewing-Pattern Workshop
So, you've taken the Basic Sewing Machine Safety and Basic Use (SBU) class. Now how do you start making your own custom fit clothing and costumes? By reading a pattern of course!
In this class, we will explore everything you need to know to get started sewing from a pattern. You'll learn how to pick and read a pattern, accurately take measurements, as well as cutting, piecing and ways of sewing to preserve your fingers and get the shape you want. You will get to choose one of the apron patterns and fabric provided by us, lay out your pattern, cut it out and sew it on any sewing machine for which you have passed the Safety and Basic Use class.

WKS527: Electroluminescent Wire Workshop
Do you like to glow in the dark? Looking for a fun and easy way to jazz up the season, but aren’t quite sure how?
Join us to learn the basics of our favorite glowing embellishment, the electroluminescent (EL) wire.
In this workshop, we will show you how to solder together your own piece of EL wire and give you your own set up to take home! We will also talk about how how EL wire works, how to assemble a working length of it, how to attach it to clothing, and more!

WKS528: Basic Wood Jig Workshop
Now that you've taken the Woodshop SBU, learn how to speed up your work process while keeping precision and accuracy by building your own wood working jig. Participants will learn about basic jig concepts, how to make jigs, and will walk through the steps to create a basic, universal sliding jig for their own use.
In this class, you will learn to use the TechShop jigs, (e.g., table router fence and table saw sled) in conjunction with making easy, impromptu jigs for doing repetitive tasks, all the while cutting the parts for and assembling your own universal sliding jig to take home.
Class Prerequisite: You MUST successfully complete the Woodshop SBU in order to take this class.

WKS530: Coffee 101: How to Roast Your Own Beans
Who doesn't love a good cup of coffee first thing in the morning? If you're ready to take the next step to becoming a true coffee aficionado, then come learn the first steps to making coffee; roasting your own beans!
In this workshop attendees will learn the basics of coffee roasting using a simple method anyone can do at home. Various types of roasting machines and processes will be discussed, as well as differences in roast levels, bean varieties, and bean production processes.
This hands-on experience will teach you the fine art of brewing the perfect cup of coffee, as well as experience the sensory evaluation of a freshly roasted and brewed cup of coffee.

WKS531: Blade Sharpening Workshop: Flat Blades and Chisels
We all have them -- those pocket or kitchen knives that just don't cut it any more. Come learn how you can bring a new edge back to your knives as well as your shop chisels!
In this workshop, you will learn the basics of sharpening single and double bevel blades such as plane blades, chisels and knives. We will also cover types of sharpening methods such as guides, jigs and freehand, and discuss grits and quality of blade sharpness as well as oil stones, water stones, honing and polishing compounds, and knife steels.
You will learn, hands on, how to sharpen a chisel, plane blade or knife using stones and the "scary sharp" method. Please feel free to bring your own dull blade if you have one!

WKS532: Summer of Creation: Micro-Control Your World
Are you ready to start programming your own computer boards or robots and take control of your computerized world? Through a variety of exciting projects you will learn how to design, build and program your own micro-controller!
This five-day camp will introduce budding hackers to the all-powerful Arduino board, which will be used to make a multitude of different projects throughout the week.
TechShop Week-Long Summer Camps are for kids ages 8-17, Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM.
Extended care is available from 8:30 AM until 6:00 PM for an additional $100 for the week.
Also, we would be happy to provide your child with a nutritious lunch for $100 for the week.

Design and Build Camp introduces young innovators to software and provides a chance to bring creations to life using TechShop’s laser cutters and 3D printers! Designers will start off learning and refining their CAD (computer aided design) skills in Autodesk and Adobe software before bringing projects to our Epilog laser cutters and MakerBot 3D printers!

WKS519: Pewter Drop Casting Workshop
Since the 11th century, pewter has been cast into objects of utility and beauty. An alloy of tin and copper, pewter is relatively malleable, and its soft sheen provides an elegant contrast to the steel which surrounds us today.
In this hands-on workshop, you will learn to make a mold and cast a small part using molten pewter. You will first create a plaster mold blank that can be carved using hand tools or any other carving instrument. Next, you will hand carve a simple part or design and will learn various other techniques such as using modeling clay or copying an existing piece. Finally, you will melt the pewter and make your casting to create a pendant, key fob, piece of jewelry, or small part.
Workshop length: 2 hours. Cost: $50 including materials fee.
