TXL105: Industrial Serger Sewing Machine SBU

Learn how to sew like a pro. The overlock stitch made by a serger sewing machine sews over the edge of one or two pieces of cloth for edging, hemming or seaming. The machine also cuts off the unused edge of the fabric and results in a professional looking seam.

In this Safety and Basic Use (SBU) class, you will get hands-on experience with our four-thread industrial serger sewing machine to create robust seams and fine rolled hems.

You will make a small project in this class.

Once you take and successfully pass this class, you can use this equipment for your projects whenever you work at TechShop as a member!

TXL107: CNC Long Arm Quilting Machine SBU

In this information packed, hands-on Safety and Basic Use (SBU) class, you will learn the ins and outs of working with TechShop's CNC long arm quilting machine.

You will learn how to wind bobbins, thread the machine, change needles and use the hopping foot. You will learn to use the two modes of stitching: movement and stitch. We will discuss sources for materials and machine accessories and you will receive tips for professional results.

Upon successful completion of this class, you will have the experience and knowledge necessary to operate this machine independently.

This course now includes instruction on the CNC attachment. Your quilting can be traditional, with you controlling the pattern, or you may let the CNC attachment take over and automatically stitch a pattern you created on the computer.

TXL204: Digitizer CNC Embroiderer Software

Pop your knowledge of the digitizing process and quickly start having fun printing your own art in thread.

Join us for this lecture class where we'll have fun covering many aspects of this feature-rich, digitizing software package by Janome. This software supports a variety of embroidery machines, including the Janome and the Brother.

If you're new to digitizing (creating machine embroidery stitches from 2D artwork), this is a great place to start. We'll discuss aspects of digitizing to be aware of when printing with thread;

teach you how to work with existing art as well as digitize your own objects, including shapes and text; introduce you to features you can use to control the sew-out of your designs and more.

This two-hour class is all about the software and is likely to save you weeks of exploring on your own. It does not include any time with the CNC Embroidery Machine; it is software only.

Recommendation: For hands-on demos of actual embroidering, including how to hoop and the handling of stabilizer, take the CNC Embroiderer SBU. There's a slight advantage to taking the SBU before this class, but it's not required.
