MAC204: Advanced Metal Lathe - Tooling and Tool Grinding
Lathe tooling has such a wide variety of shapes, materials, standards and sizes that sometimes choosing the proper tool can be overwhelming. Even more important is having an understanding of what makes a lathe tool work and why one may be more appropriate for the job at hand than another.
In this class, you will learn the basics of lathe tooling selection and grind your own high speed steel lathe bit in TechShop's grinding room. We will also cover the basics of carbide tooling and explain when and why to choose carbon over steel.
This class will help round out your metal lathe knowledge and equip you with a skill that can save you a good deal of headache and money down the road.
