STEAM001: Build a ZeGo Robot

Our Summer Workshops are week-long workshops geared towards projects in CNC technology, electronics, robotics, woodworking and art. Designed for kids ages 12 and up with an interest in making and tinkering, led by professionals in STEAM fields.

You and a friend or family member will build a multi-functional ZeGo Robot that can 3D print, wood burn, etch PCBs and draw! Led by one of the creators of the ZeGo Robot, you’ll learn how the machine works and will assemble one over the course of the week.

*Note: This price is per pair. Only one person per pair needs to register. Option of purchasing completed kit afterwards.

Join artist James Gyre for this awesome workshop where you will make your own wooden drum! You’ll get an introduction to CNC technology, learn how to use Adobe Illustrator to design the drum’s geometry, and use the laser cutter to add custom graphics to your drum. Then assemble the pieces and get ready to jam out!

STEAM005: 21st Century Printmaking

Our Summer Workshops are week-long workshops geared towards projects in CNC technology, electronics, robotics, woodworking and art. Designed for kids ages 12 and up with an interest in making and tinkering, led by professionals in STEAM fields.

Come and learn timeless methods of printmaking remixed with new technology in this unique workshop! You’ll write code, use a laser cutter, and mix (safe) chemicals to create your own fine art prints on paper and fabric. Projects include laser engraving wood block prints, using digital negatives to create cyanotype prints, and designing eye-catching laser cut stencils for spray painting.

Introducing the Gandy Bar, a musical instrument you simply can’t put down! You’ll use the laser cutter and woodshop tools, including the mitre saw, table saw, band saw, drill press and sanders. In one week, you’ll make an elegant strumming instrument called a dulcimer. You will assemble, finish and tune your instrument with the help of the creators of the Gandy Bar. Finally, you’ll get an exclusive music lesson!

*Note: This camp is for ages 16 and up. Discount available for existing TechShop members. Non-member price includes a 1-month membership to TechShop!

STEAM415: Community Lawns Camp: Week 4

Local partners have come together to offer a special 6-week camp for students ages 16 through 18. This camp will explore the entrepreneurial world of "making" in our surrounding community. Students will work with Pittsburgh Community Lawns, a project to revitalize underutilized urban spaces by integrating classic (and not-so-classic) games into vacant lots. All partners have combined efforts to provide entrepreneurial expertise, leadership skills, and connections with local businesses.




In Week 4, students will take the Sandblasting and Powder Coating SBU class. They will use their skills in the Metal Shop, Welding Shop, and Finishing Room to create Ladder Golf games. They will also develop a design and build plan for their custom lawn games.

STEAM416: Community Lawns Camp: Week 5

Local partners have come together to offer a special 6-week camp for students ages 16 through 18. This camp will explore the entrepreneurial world of "making" in our surrounding community. In Week 5, students will build their custom lawn games using tools throughout TechShop, and install all 3 lawn games onsite at a local lot for the greater community to enjoy for years to come.
