WKS412: Laser Etch a Whiskey Snifter Glass With Wigle Whiskey

In this collaborative workshop, TechShop teams up with Wigle Whiskey to offer you a unique taste of technology and local whiskey. You will etch your name or a simple design onto a traditional whiskey snifter glass. One of the folks from Wigle will tell you about the rich history of American whiskey in Pittsburgh, overview the process of making whiskey, and about Wigle today. Included in the price of this workshop is a free 1-hr public tour of Wigle's distillery in the Strip District, valued at $20! Tours include a whiskey, gin or rum cocktail to start, a hands-on tour of the distillation process, a history of the Whiskey Rebellion told through the eyes of Philip Wigle, and a seated straight tasting. Bring your personalized snifter glass to complete this experience!

WKS901: Tesla Coil Design and Operation

Learn about design methods and operating principles of a traditional spark gap Tesla coil! Mathematical relationships and empirical measurements will be used to gain a greater understanding of high voltage electronics. We will be demonstrating these concepts on a giant homemade Tesla coil!

This is the perfect workshop for high-voltage electronics enthusiasts and for those who want to build their own Tesla coils.

About the Instructor: Mark Barlow teaches electronics classes at TechShop Pittsburgh. He has worked in the solar industry for five years and has cumulatively worked on 35 megawatts of solar power generation, including the first solar array in downtown Pittsburgh. Mark built his first Tesla coil in high school and continues to be an enthusiast of high voltage electronics.
