AUD130: Autodesk Fusion 360 Basics

Fusion 360 is Autodesk’s latest product development tool for design, fabrication and collaboration. Merging industrial and mechanical design, you will quickly explore organic shapes through intuitive free-form modeling tools, or create precise, parametric models – it’s up to you! Simply put, Fusion 360 is the platform for rapidly accelerating from an idea in your head to a manufactured product in your hand.

In this introductory course, you will learn about:

  • Cloud data management and collaboration
  • Navigation
  • Solid modeling
  • 2D sketching
  • T-spline sculpting
  • Creating assemblies
  • Rendering
By the end of class, you will have an understanding of direct and parametric modeling, dimensioned sketches, T-spline geometry, and much more!

AUD008: Autodesk AutoCAD Basics

Autodesk AutoCAD has a long history as one being of the very first CAD (computer aided drafting) programs available for personal computers. Today, AutoCAD software builds on this legacy and remains one of the world's leading 2D and 3D CAD design tools.

In this class, you will learn how to draw precise, vector-based CAD drawings that can be interpreted and used by CAM (computer aided machining) programs. The vector drawing skills taught here are the basis for creating designs to be used with TechShop's Epilog laser cutters, CNC vinyl cutter, Tormach CNC mill, ShopBot router, Flow waterjet cutter, and CNC plasma cutter. The 2D drawing skills taught here also translate to designing, drawing and manipulating 3D parts in other Autodesk software such as Autodesk Inventor and Revit.

Learn:
  • How to set up your workspace for efficiency
  • How to draw with arcs, polylines, splines and more
  • How to use text and reference images in your designs
  • How layers work
  • The theory behind drawing clean vectors
  • Optimization tips and tricks

AUD009: Autodesk Inventor for Mold Design

Injection mold design and manufacturing can be one of the most expensive and time consuming processes in manufacturing and prototyping. But it doesn't have to be.

Autodesk Inventor has a number of incredible software tools that make designing complex parts much easier. The feature-rich mold design section covered in this class is one of them.

In this class, the instructor will cover several tools that are available to automate key aspects of injection mold design and testing.

Learn how parts modeled in Inventor can be used to automatically generate an efficient mold as well as how Inventor ensures that any changes to the digital model are automatically reflected in your mold design.

When you are done with your design, the file can be exported to a variety of different CAM (computer aided manufacturing) packages to generate the code needed to machine your mold on equipment such as TechShop's CNC Tormach mill. Once you've machined your mold, it can be used to manufacture parts on TechShop's Morgan Press injection molding machine.

This class is a fantastic way to do in-house rapid prototyping and can help you cut down on the number of iterations needed before you have a working final mold ready for production on any scale.

AUD501: Autodesk Inventor Workshop

This workshop is for people using Autodesk Inventor and stuck on something or unsure how to proceed. This is not a traditional class; it is an opportunity for Autodesk Inventor users to ask the instructors their Inventor-related questions.

Bring your file, load it up on one of our computers, and "ask the expert"!

In this workshop, the instructor will assist a small group of people working on projects in the computer classroom, moving from one person to another, giving advice and information to help move participants' projects along in Inventor. Instructors will not do design work, but will provide assistance with any of the tools or concepts of this powerful CAD software.

Prerequisite:

You must have already taken the Introduction to Inventor class(es) prior to using this service.
