“TechShop Day” Declared by City of Pittsburgh as New Location Opens
City Council honors opening of TechShop facility as company begins new Veteran Affairs program
PITTSBURGH, Pa. , March 28, 2013 -- TechShop, a membership-based, do-it-yourself workshop and fabrication studio, today reminds the public that its Pittsburgh facility in Bakery Square is officially open.

Earlier this week, the Pittsburgh City Council declared March 26, 2013 to be “TechShop Day” in the city of Pittsburgh. The city recognized that TechShop is building on Pittsburgh’s manufacturing heritage by providing access to the tools that can drive a creative spirit and entrepreneurial economy in Pittsburgh in the years to come.

“Pittsburgh has a rich history of American ingenuity, from inventing the world’s first automatic washing machine to being the birthplace of Bingo and the Big Mac,” said Mark Hatch, CEO of TechShop. “We are incredibly proud to receive this honor from the city of Pittsburgh and look forward to TechShop Pittsburgh serving as a hub for local innovation.”

Pittsburgh marks the seventh TechShop location in the U.S., following last year’s opening of a TechShop location in the Austin area with future locations to come in Arizona (with Arizona State University Chandler Innovation Center, TechShop’s first academic partnership) and Washington, D.C.

TechShop Pittsburgh has the distinction of being one of the first locations to partner with the Department of Veterans Affairs Center for Innovation (VACi2) to provide 2,000 one-year memberships to American former service members. Veterans interested in learning more about the partnership and the application process should visit:
