Membership Rate FAQ

Effective Sunday, July 1 2012, TechShop membership rates will increase.

It's been six years since we opened our doors in Menlo Park. Since that time we've added two new Bay Area locations for your convenience; added new amenities, equipment and machines; increased our staff many times over; and significantly expanded our education events programs. The feedback from our members has been overwhelmingly positive towards these upgrades, and we're absolutely committed to the ongoing enrichment of our programs and services in the years to come. After considerable deliberation, we have decided to raise our rates for the first time ever—but only after you have had the opportunity to lock in special rates with the 2012 Maker Faire specials available until Sunday, July 1, 2012. The details of our membership rates are pictured below:

Pricing Comparisons

If I am already on a $99 recurring payment membership, is my price guaranteed to stay the same through the end of the year?

- Yes, as long as you continue to renew every month. If you allow your current membership to expire at any time, however, you will be charged the higher price when you rejoin as an active member.

If I keep my single pay-as-you-go monthly membership current, will I be able to stay at the $125 a month rate?

- No, all individual month-to-month memberships will rise to $175 on July 1, 2012. We would recommend that you purchase the $99 recurring Maker Faire special as there is no term commitmentif you wish to cancel, you simply must do so five days before the next renewal date.

Is my $75 a month recurring student membership locked in until December 31, 2012?

- Yes, as long as you continue to automatically renew every month. If you allow your current membership to expire at any time, however, you will be charged the higher price when you rejoin as an active member.

If I fail to make my automatic monthly payment due to insufficient funds or a failed debit or credit card charge, what happens?

- You must keep your membership payments current, with no interruption, to stay at the lower prices. Otherwise, your membership price goes to the higher rate.

Are family add-on memberships going up?

- No.

If I am an existing, corporate account member, will my rates be going up?

- As long as you continue to renew every month, your rate will remain the same through December 31, 2012. If you allow your current membership to expire at any time, however, you will be charged the higher price when you rejoin as an active member.
