GE & VA Skills Development Program Sponsorship

In partnership with General Electric (GE) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Center for Innovation (VACI), TechShop now provides a transformational program that makes available to Veterans 3,000 free one-year memberships, professional instruction, hands-on training, and access to TechShop’s world class workspaces, machines, tools, and a supportive community of product designers, developers, and engineers. The Skills Development Program at TechShop is sponsored by GE and VACI to encompass advanced manufacturing, up-skilling, and entrepreneurism.

VACI identifies, tests, and evaluates innovative solutions to help Veterans access the benefits they have earned, improve the quality of services at VA, increase the satisfaction of Veterans in their engagement with VA, and control costs. This VACI project provides 2,000 memberships to Veterans who can then follow their passions for creating, inventing, and innovating in ways that improve their job outlook and provide access to a vibrant community that appreciates their service.

GE’s Get Skills to Work (GSTW) coalition helps Veterans and employers translate military skills to in-demand, advanced manufacturing positions, accelerate skills training for former service members, and empower employers with tools to recruit, onboard and mentor Veterans. As part of this program, GE is sponsoring an additional 1,000 slots in the TechShop program. The Department of Veterans Affairs Center for Innovation has also linked its partnership with TechShop by joining the GSTW coalition.
