Woodturning is a method of woodworking used to create wooden bowls, pens, table legs and endless other round or cylindrical items on a lathe.

Learn to safely use the lathe to make wooden parts in this Safety and Basic Use (SBU) class. Discover how to set up the lathe, prepare raw materials, and use different wood turning tools. Spin circles around the shop with the new skills acquired in this class!

Project: Turn a wooden spindle

Prerequisites: Successful completion of WOD101: Woodshop SBU prior to taking this class is recommended but not required.

Equipment access: Wood lathe

Safety
  • Mandatory: Closed-toe shoes, eye protection, short sleeves

  • Advisable: Hearing protection, particle filter, or dust mask
