LAS103: Laser Cutting and Etching SBU - ULS

Learn how to use a laser cutter to cut, etch and engrave designs in a variety of materials up to 24" x 18" and up to 3/8" thick in this Safety and Basic Use (SBU) class. Work with acrylic, wood, paper, cardboard, fabric, leather, and even chocolate! Using graphics software like Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW, cut intricate designs and engrave highly detailed images at the touch of a button. The sky is the limit with this simple and versatile tool.

Project: Etch a custom dog tag

Prerequisite: Familiarity with graphics software will be helpful.

Equipment access: Universal laser cutter

Minimum age: 8

Supervision requirements: During class, all students 8–15 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is also enrolled in the class.

When using the laser cutter outside of class time, members 8–15 years of age must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian who has passed the SBU.

Safety: Closed-toe shoes are mandatory.

Passing this class is a requirement to use this equipment at TechShop
