BLK301: Intermediate Blacksmithing

Try your hand at a range of additional blacksmithing techniques including forge welding, nail making, and a range of decorative twists. You can use knowledge gained in class to forge fire pokers, letter openers, and other basic objects.

Project: Student driven

Prerequisite(s): None. However, MTL103: Basic Metal Shop and WKS 112 Intro to Blacksmithing are recommended.

Equipment access: Anvil, Propane Forge. Hammers, Twisting Bars, Bench Vice, Hot Cut Hardie, Borax Flux

Minimum age: 16

Supervision requirements: During class, all 16- and 17-year-old students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is also enrolled in the class.

When using the forge and anvil outside of class time, 16- and 17-year-old members must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian who has passed the SBU.

    Mandatory: Closed-toed shoes made of natural fibers or leather; natural fiber or leather shirt; natural fiber or leather long pants; hearing protection; eye protection

    Advisable: Leather jacket, leather pants, leather boots, leather apron
