WKS603: Lifecasting 101
Class Number 1004-39599

In this Special Effects Series workshop, you will learn how to make exact copies of anyone's face, arm or any other body part!

Lifecasting is the process of creating a three-dimensional copy of a living human body, through the use of molding and casting techniques. In this Special Effects Series workshop, you will make a half-head lifecast using industry-standard alginate. You will then cast a positive of the head in a strong plaster -- perfect for our Make Your Own Latex Mask workshop! In addition to hands-on molding and casting, we will discuss the many uses of life casting and touch on more advanced techniques.

This class is designed to accommodate beginners as well as the experienced special effects guru. You'll leave with a complete half-head lifecast of yourself or your partner that you can use for mask-making, prototyping, and sculpture!

Instructor Profile: Tim Currence is a Dream Consultant at TechShop Pittsburgh and a special effects designer. Tim has extensive background in the special effects field and has a Bachelor's degree in Entertainment Design from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.

NOTE: Lifecasting is a two-person job! Please bring a model with you, or, if you want to make a life cast of yourself, bring a partner to help! Only one person per pair needs to register for this workshop.
