Make Your Own Custom Hoop Skirt
Saturday, 10/20/2012
10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
TechShop Mid-Peninsula

Can't find a properly shaped hoop for your Dickens Faire outfit? Need a little more poof in that Halloween costume? Does your wedding dress need some support? Make your own custom hoop skirt!

In this workshop. you'll design and create your own one-of-a-kind hoop skirt suitable for historical reenactments, fashion runways, Steampunk conventions and more. The method used in this class will work for any type of round hoop, whether cone shaped, bell shaped or even an undulating shape. Make your hoop short or long, wide or narrow; it's all up to you! This workshop will only cover round style hoops; bustle/hoop combos, elliptical hoops and panniers cannot be created with this method.

We'll teach you how to draft a pattern customized to your needs, then walk you through turning that pattern into reality. You'll use high quality spring steel to give your skirt the strength and support it needs to withstand whatever you throw at it. When you're done, you'll walk (or swish) away with a finished hoop skirt

Basic sewing knowledge is required for this class.

Actual workshop is 6 hours in length. There will be a 1 hour break for lunch.

Please note: This is not a Safety and Basic Use (SBU) class. Workshops utilize TechShop’s equipment, and all shop rules still apply – unless you have passed the required safety course(s), your instructor will assist you on the machine.
