This workshop is part of Menlo Park’s Aluminum Casting Series
Let your kid's artistic and creative energies loose themselves at TechShop!
In this "TechShop Kids" series of workshops, your child will make his/her own aluminum sculpture, using the ancient method of lost wax casting. (S)he will work with Sonja, our sculpture expert and all around highly talented artist, to model wax into a sculpture masterpiece. (S)he will then learn how to invest his/her model to create the lost wax casting. This workshop will be completed by the pouring of molten aluminum into the cast. Pricing is for one 30-cubic-inch sculpture. Additional casting requires purchase of additional workshop seats.
This workshop takes place over two days as Part 1 and Part 2, totalling 5 hours.
You are signing your child up for Part 1 of the workshop: model the wax and invest the model. You must also register your child for Part 2 if (s)he wants to see the molten aluminum being poured into the mold.
If your child is not available for Part 2, you can pick up his/her sculpture after the completion of Cast an Aluminum Sculpture - Part 2.

This is an UNACCOMPANIED event wherein you (the parent or guardian) do not need to be present during class. (you may, of course, remain on site if you wish.)
Note: Each participant is expected to behave respectfully and follow the rules. TechShop is a fun place, but it is a functioning shop with equipment, machinery, tools and adults, all working and whirring during your child's time here. For this reason, if at ANY time your child acts in an unsafe manner, or is disrespectful or disruptive to the instructor, other kids, Members or staff, we reserve the right to remove him or her to a safe area away from the workshop areas. If this happens, you will be obligated to remove your child from TechShop immediately.
For your child's safety: (S)he must wear long pants and a long-sleeved shirt made of natural fibers for this class. And remember:(S)he must ALWAYS wear closed-toed shoes while at TechShop.
